Materials Science and Engineering

Lynn Loo

An introduction to the structure and properties of important current and future materials, including metals, semiconductors, and polymers. Emphasis will be placed on the phase behavior and processing of materials, and how structure in these materials impact their macroscopic physical, electrical, and thermal properties.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Readings from text book and distributed lecture notes. One problem set a week. One midterm and one final.

Requirements/Grading:
Mid Term Exam - 40%
Final Exam - 40%
Problem set(s) - 20%

Other Requirements:
Not Open to Freshmen.

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
Calculus, physics, and chemistry. Course will expect some level of organic chemistry; students to carry out some basic derivation of equations. Freshmen should speak with course instructor for approval to enroll..
