Investigative Journalism - Introduction to Investigative Reporting

ENROLLMENT BY APPLICATION OR INTERVIEW. DEPARTMENTAL PERMISSION REQUIRED.
This course explores the world of journalism from reporting and writing news stories to investigative pieces. Topics include: how to find stories that make a difference; how to tell stories on multi-media platforms; ethics and responsibilities of journalists; hoaxes and fabrications in the business and the lessons learned. The course will include guest speakers and visits to the Washington Post and NPR.

Reading/Writing assignment:
6-8 hours of preparation a week, consisting of reading, reporting and writing. Five short pieces and one longer one.
Requirements/Grading:
