Major Filmmakers
DEPARTMENT CONSENT IS REQUIRED TO ADD THIS CLASS
A seminar on the major films of Alfred Hitchcock, Ingmar Bergman, and Michelangelo Antonioni. There will be an emphasis on psychoanalytical themes in the discussion of such films as Spellbound, Rear Window, Psycho, The Birds, The Silence, Persona, Fanny and Alexander, L'avventura, La notte, and Blow Up.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Three hours of film screenings, approximately seventy pages of reading each week. Three short papers (approx five pages) one each on a film not discussed in seminar by Hitchcock, Berman, and Antonioni.
Requirements/Grading:
Term Paper(s) - 60%
Class/Precept Participation - 40%
