Special Topics in Creative Writing - Techniques of the Novel
This course explores the different methods and forms for organizing a novel. It will pay special attention to the following topics: the narrator, time in the novel, points of view, the function of style, what is told?, what is left out?, narrating by eliding, motives, the tale and its autonomy and dependance in relation to context.

Reading/Writing assignments:
One short story to be discussed in a workshop setting. One final paper on an assigned topic.
Requirements/Grading:
Paper in Lieu of Mid Term - 35%
Paper in lieu of Final - 35%
Oral Presentation(s) - 20%
Class/Precept Participation - 10%
Prerequisites and Restrictions:
Open to all students who can read and write in Spanish.
