Introduction to French Literary Theory

Combines a general introduction to critical theory with in-depth study of a small number of representative original texts. Authors may include Sartre, Fanon, Deleuze, Foucault, Rancière, Kristeva, and Badiou..

Reading/Writing assignments:
Students will write two papers in French of 4-6 pages in length. Each will give one oral presentation. A final take-home exam will be completed during Reading Week.

Requirements/Grading:
Take Home Final Exam - 30%
Papers - 30%
Oral Presentation(s) - 20%
Class/Precept Participation - 20%

Other Requirements:
Not Open to Freshmen.

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
200-level French class or permission of Instructor.
