Society and Politics in Pakistan
Nuclear weapons, radical Islam, military dictatorship, and war with India commonly come to mind when people think of Pakistan today. This course will examine the politics and economics of state-building in Pakistan, the impact of the cold war and hot wars, the role of militarism and nuclear weapons, the challenges of identity politics, the rise of Islamic fundamentalism, economic development and inequality, and the relationship with the United States.
