American Spectacle: A Theater Conversation Beyond The Proscenium
In this workshop, students will create original writing that is in conversation with American theatrical traditions beyond the proscenium. We will investigate and engage American theatrical forms, such as the freak show, burlesque, courtroom drama, mega-church, street protests, violence as spectacle and more.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Each week, the students will be expected to complete short writing exercises (1 - 5 pages) in and outside of class which will account for 35% of the final grade. The writing exercises will be short scripts.

There are no text books required for this course. The instructor will prepare handouts for distribution each week.
