Legal and Business Spanish

An advanced level Spanish course on legal and business language. The aim is to provide students with a new vocabulary for classroom discussions, readings and practice in a guided legal and business-related context. This course enables a deeper understanding of grammatical concepts previously presented as well as the syntactical and lexical challenges typical of this specific area of the Spanish language. Students will also be introduced to the basics of a completely different legal system and different business cultures, through texts, discussions, research, translation practice, situational case studies, and videos.

Reading/Writing assignments:
15-30 pages of reading per week. Four written assignments and a final essay. Two oral presentations and several audio and video commentaries on course topics.

Requirements/Grading:
Paper in lieu of Final - 10%
Other Exam - 20%
Papers - 20%
Oral Presentation(s) - 20%
Class/Precept Participation - 15%
Other (See Instructor) - 15%

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
SPA 107 along with instructor's permission; or SPA 108. Also open to students who have completed their Spanish language requirement through the Department's placement test or a satisfactory AP/SAT score (AP5/SP SAT ST 760)..
