Advanced Creative Writing (Poetry)

Advanced practice in the original composition of poetry for discussion in regularly scheduled workshop meetings. The curriculum allows the student to develop writing skills, provides an introduction to the possibilities of contemporary literature and offers perspective on the places of literature among the liberal arts.

Reading/Writing assignments:
(1) One manuscript per week. (2) Reading of other students' submissions in advance of the workshop in which they are to be discussed. (3) Other assigned readings and exercises. 60 pages of reading per week.

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
By application only. Students must have completed two 200-level CWR courses prior to applying. Please visit the Lewis Center Creative Writing website for application information. Other information:
Individual conferences are scheduled at intervals during the semester. There are no exams. Program IV English majors may use two creative writing course at 300 or 400-level as departmentals.
