Advanced Topics in Computer Science - Securing Cyberspace with Big Data

This course teaches students how to search the type of "big data" that becomes routinely available to future cyber experts. In particular, it introduces students to distributed streaming data algorithms that are suitable for efficiently and effectively searching distributed and dynamic data warehouses for clues or evidence of suspicious network-wide traffic patterns or end host behavior.

Other information:
Dr. Walter Willinger from NIKSUN, Inc. will be responsible for organizing the weekly meetings and lining up guest lecturers from industry and academia. He will also provide a list of papers on different types of distributed streaming data algorithms. Students will be grouped into teams (3-4 students per team), and each team will be responsible for a paper report/presentation and final project report/presentation on one such algorithm.
