Studies in French Language and Style

Carole Marithe Trévise, Course Head

An interdisciplinary course proposing the study of language, culture, and French and Francophone literatures organized around the theme "Visions fantastiques". Includes the study of different genres and mediums on topics including fairy tales and folk tales; utopias and dystopias; science fiction; and folly, dreams and the surreal. The course offers a review and reinforcement of advanced grammatical structures and aims to improve written and oral expression through the study of texts.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Weekly assignments include: 10-15 pages of reading; grammar and style exercises. There will be two in-class oral exposés per term and there will be 3 tests and 3 short papers.

FRE 107, FRE 108, or placement based on placement test..

Equivalent Courses:
FRE 207, FRE 207F are considered equivalent courses and cannot be taken multiple times for credit.

Offered both semesters. Classes are conducted in French.
