Developmental Psychology

Yarrow Dunham

A survey of human development emphasizing the nature of children's minds and experience, developmental change, and the relation between child and adult mentation. How do children at different periods in development think, feel, and experience the world around them? Students will be involved in preschool settings.

Robert S. Siegler, Judy S. DeLoache and Nancy Eisenberg, How Children Develop (3rd ed.)

Reading/Writing assignments:
Two exams, plus a final exam; three short papers (2-3 pages in length); 70-90 pages of reading per week.

Mid Term Exam - 40%
Final Exam - 30%
Papers - 20%
Class/Precept Participation - 10%

Other information:
Developing research skills in child development plays an important role, as does the student's ability to relate to preschool aged children. All students must participate in an NIH Human Subjects Research minicourse.
