Fundamentals of Environmental Studies: Climate, Air Pollution, Toxics, and Water

Cunningham, Cunningham and Saigo, Environmental Science: A Global Concern
Up to 100 pages of reading will be assigned per week, including textbook and popular/technical articles in a suplementary reader. Students will attend lectures and participate in precept discussions. Students will write one lab report/short paper for each of the four units.

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
The course is required for students who wish to pursue the Environmental Studies certificate program; these students cannot enroll under the p/d/f option. This course will satisfy the core course requirement as well as one of the two required labs. Preference will be given to ENV concentrators..
Weekly precepts will feature group presentation by students, leading a discussion of articles from the reader. Case studies and current events will be fodder for our analysis. Lab themes will follow the flow of the course through the four topics mentioned above.
