Contemporary Dance: Advanced Technique and Choreography

Advanced technique and performance. In this course, students will participate in the staging of the restored version of Claude Debussy's final ballet, The Toy Box. Performances will take place in the Berlind Theater with live music by the student jazz ensemble conducted by Anthony Branker.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Students are expected to ready 20 pages per week. Technical rehearsals in preparation for performance: approximately 20 hours. Weekly reading assignments, one final paper.

Papers - 30%
Class/Precept Participation - 50%
Other (See Instructor) - 20%

Course is required for concentrators

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
DAN 409 is designed for students with minimum of two or preferably three dance program courses from the following: DAN 309 and/or DAN 319 and/or DAN 419 and/or DAN 420, or the equivalent outside experience. ATTENDANCE: Attendance in all classes and completion of all work required..

Other information:
INTERVIEW INFORMATION: THERE IS NO APPLICATION FOR THIS COURSE. In order to assure correct placement, interested students must attend an open interview. Tuesdays, November 10th and 17th from 2:00 to 2:30pm in Room 114.
