Seminar on Education-Theory and Practice

ENROLLMENT BY APPLICATION OR INTERVIEW. DEPARTMENTAL PERMISSION REQUIRED.

Seminar taken concurrently with Practice Teaching (TPP402). Students investigate the processes of curriculum development and implementation, develop learning goals and rubrics for assessment, study national and local issues in education and their impact on schools, examine current philosophies and effective practices, reflect on their work and evaluate their performance as practice teachers.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Required to read (apprx 65 pp/week) and apply research and educational theory to classroom experiences, reflect upon the connection of educational literature to classroom experiences, and to identify key issues classrooms and work through planning, problem solving and assessment in collaboration with fellow student teachers. Develop ethnographic portrait of school community, a case study of a student and other portfolio artifacts in conjunction w/TPP 402.

Requirements/Grading:
Papers - 80%
Class/Precept Participation - 20%

Other Requirements:
Course is required for concentrators
Not Open to Freshmen.

Prerequisites: See Teacher Preparation Program requirements. Course requires admission into the Teacher Preparation Program. Enrollment limited to students doing their practice teaching (TPP 402) except by special permission from the program director..
