Computer Vision

This course is an introduction to the concepts of 2D and 3D computer vision. It surveys a wide range of topics from level-level vision to high-level recognition. We will discuss concepts such as filtering and edge detection; cameras and shape reconstruction; segmentation and clustering; optical flow and tracking; object recognition; motion recognition; statistical modeling of visual data, etc. Throughout the course, there will also be examination of aspects of human vision and perception that guide and inspire computer vision techniques.


Reading/Writing assignments:
Readings will be assigned (approximately 1 chapter per week) and/or classic research papers (1-2 papers per week). Programming assignments will be due every 2-3 weeks.

Requirements/Grading:
Design Project - 20%
Quizzes - 25%
Class/Precept Participation - 5%
Problem set(s) - 50%

Other Requirements:
Statistical, design or other software use required

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
COS 217 and COS 226. The course will require programming (in C, C++, and/or Matlab), as well as some background in data structures, linear algebra and probability. Experience with computer graphics is useful, but not necessary..

Other information:
Design project in lieu of a final exam.
