Topics in STEP - Information Technology and Law

We examine recurring, high-profile issues in technology policy & law. Each meeting explores a challenging topic, including consumer privacy, data security, online crime, electronic surveillance, net neutrality, online speech, algorithmic fairness, cryptocurrencies, election security, & offensive operations. We cover foundational technical concepts that affect policy & law, including internet architecture, cryptography, systems security, privacy science, & artificial intelligence. Materials & discussion draw extensively from current events & primary sources. Assignments are modeled on real-world policy work products.
