Egyptian Colloquial Arabic

An introduction to the spoken dialects of Egypt, particularly of Cairo. Students in this course are assumed to have a functional, working knowledge of classical Arabic, and the course will focus on developing the ability to use conversational language in common, everyday situations.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Assignments will focus on reading (fewer than 50 pages per week) and reviewing materials developed by the instructor as well as watching a variety of Egyptian colloquial materials on the internet.

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
A minimum of two years study of Modern Standard Arabic (equivalent to completion of ARA 107) or NES permission..
