Introduction to Portuguese I

Students will be taught the fundamental skills of oral comprehension, speaking, reading and writing, while gaining exposure to the Portuguese-speaking world through the media, literature, film and the music of Brazil, Portugal and Lusophone Africa.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Emphasis will be on oral communication in class. There will be daily homework assignments, grammar exercises and quizzes, short compositions, a midterm, an oral presentation, and final paper.

Requirements/Grading:
Mid Term Exam - 10%
Paper in lieu of Final - 10%
Other Exam - 10%
Quizzes - 15%
Papers - 15%
Oral Presentation(s) - 10%
Class/Precept Participation - 20%
Other (See Instructor) - 10%

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
No credit is given for POR 101 unless POR 102 is taken..
