South Asian Popular Culture

The course will provide an introduction to several South Asian popular culture forms and their study. Popular culture forms and practices to be discussed will include comics, film, music, visual culture (posters, calendar art, photography, etc.), clothing, and sport, with attention given to their historical and contemporary contexts.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Weekly reading of 150-200 pages. A weekly response journal (~500 words) on the Blackboard course website, a take-home midterm essay, and a final paper (>3500 words, approx. 12-15 pages).
