Medical Spanish
An advanced Spanish-language course that focuses on medical and health topics in the hispanic world. Students will learn and practice specific vocabulary and structures useful for conducting a medical interview in Spanish. Aspects of Latino culture in the health and medical fields are explored by means of examining authentic texts and through the contribution of guest speakers. The course includes a project in which students will interact with the local Latino community.

Reading/Writing assignments:
15-30 pages of reading per week. 3-4 short writing assignments. Two oral presentations. Final research project.

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
SPA 107 (with instructor's permission) or SPA 108. Also open to students who have completed their Spanish language requirement through the Department's placement test or a satisfactory AP/SAT score (AP 5/SP SAT ST 760)..
Other information:
SPA 205 can be used as a Global Health certificate elective if the student does additional research for the final project. SPA 205 is a CBLI course.
