Urbanism and Urban Policy

Douglas S. Massey

Introduces students to social scientific thinking on cities and urbanism and then builds on this base to consider and evaluate various approaches to urban policy.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Students will read each of the above books and prepare short written answers to specific questions on each book for presentation in precept. In addition, students will write a term paper describing and evaluating an issue in urbanism or urban policy of their choosing.

Requirements/Grading:
Mid Term Exam - 20%
Final Exam - 30%
Term Paper(s) - 30%
Class/Precept Participation - 20%

Other Requirements:
Course is required for concentrators
