Independent Design in Engineering and the Arts

ENROLLMENT BY APPLICATION OR INTERVIEW. DEPARTMENTAL PERMISSION REQUIRED.

This course provides an opportunity for students who completed STC 209 to continue, or innovate new, design projects. New projects may be selected from suggestions by faculty members or proposed by the student. A written report and an oral presentation/demonstration/workshop that engages visitors in the completed design project will be required. Students must register for at least one of the class meetings (Monday or Wednesday 1:30pm-4:30pm) and can expect to generally spend 5-8 hours per week on the project. Students will have the opportunity to interact with and mentor the new cohort of students in STC 209.


Reading/Writing assignments:
Grading will be allocated as follows: Project Design and Proposal (40%), Final Project (40%), class participation (20%).

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
By application only; prerequisite STC/EGR/MUS 209..

Other information:
Design projects may be proposed by the student or may be selected from suggestions by faculty. Project proposals will be submitted to and discussed with the faculty early in the semester. Students will be expected to report on and present on their progress at intermediate stages during the semester. A final written report and an oral presentation/demonstration/workshop that engages visitors in the completed design project will be required.
