Princeton University Steel Band

ENROLLMENT BY APPLICATION OR INTERVIEW. DEPARTMENTAL PERMISSION REQUIRED.

The Princeton University Steel Drum Band is a performance ensemble focused on the traditional musics of Trinidad and Tobago. The primary focus of the ensemble will be on performance practice. No previous experience is necessary. Must have basic music reading skills.

Reading/Writing assignments:
There will be weekly playing assignments based on the repertoire chosen by the instructor.

Requirements/Grading:
Paper in lieu of Final - 25%
Class/Precept Participation - 50%
Other (See Instructor) - 25%

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
Students must have basic music reading skills. Enrollment is only possible after contacting Josh Quillen at josh@sopercussion.com (jquillen@princeton.edu) giving a brief background of your musical experience and interest in the course..

Other information:
Students will also have the opportunity to write or arrange music for the ensemble with the guidance of the instructor. Weekly attendance and participation will account for 50% of the final grade. Other 25% = Final Performance.
