Intermediate Biblical Hebrew

We will read the selections from the Hebrew Bible in the original Hebrew, considering aspects of translation and Hebrew grammar and syntax, as well as the historical, literary and religious contexts of the books.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Students will be asked to prepare translations of selections of text from Biblical Hebrew to English, and to read selections from the secondary literature, in advance of each session; midterm exam; a final term paper (6-8 pages) due on Dean's date. Students are asked to define their own topic, in consultation with the instructor.

Mid Term Exam - 30%
Term Paper(s) - 50%
Class/Precept Participation - 20%

Other information:
This course assumes knowledge of Biblical Hebrew. This course is open to students who have completed JDS 306/ REL 316/ HEB 306, "Elementary Biblical Hebrew," and to students who possess some familiarity with Biblical Hebrew. Please consult the instructor with any further questions about the necessary background for this course.
