Fourth-Year Modern Chinese I in Beijing


A four-week summer intensive language course taught in Beijing, China, at Beijing Normal University. This course focuses on readings and discussions from Chinese scholarly journals, essays, and newspaper articles. Students are exposed to a variety of modern Chinese literary genres, as well as some of the major substantive issues that modern Chinese intellectuals have faced. Admission by application. Prerequisites: CHI 303-304, 305-306, or equivalent. The course consists of five two-hour classes and five two-hour drill sessions weekly, plus individual tutorial sessions.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Approximately 3-4 pages of reading and 200-600 characters of written homework will be assigned each day.

CHI 303 & 304 or CHI 305 & 306 or equivalent..

Equivalent Courses:
CHI 403C, CHI 403 are considered equivalent courses and cannot be taken multiple times for credit.

Other information:
This class will meet from 6/24/19 to 7/18/19. Students will be given a 200-600 characters of written homework each day. This counts for 10% of their final grade.
