Language in Context: Urban Cultures of Buenos Aires

SPA 208 is an intensive, five-week full immersion course in Spanish language, and Argentine history, culture, and art. This course is designed for students who have completed their Spanish language requirement and wish to strengthen their proficiency in spoken and written Spanish in a Latin American country. The course also seeks to enable students to understand and interpret Argentine history and rich culture, through the exploration of the city of Buenos Aires, its architecture, museums, and cultural life; and the analysis of television and print media.

Reading/Writing assignments:
Two compositions (400-500 words) and a final paper (600-800 words); linguistic landscape project; press blog; travel journal; oral presentations.

International Travel Required
Not Open to Seniors.

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
Open to students who placed out of or completed the Spanish language requirement in addition to instructor's permission/interview..

Other information:
This class will meet from 6/1/2019 to 7/13/2019. Open to current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Freshmen and sophomores will be given priority. Mandatory excursions, museum visits, and tours. More detailed information on department's website.
